Graduate Information

While two of the initiatives so far undertaken by the faculty associated with the South Asian Studies Program (SASP) are directed toward undergraduates (the undergraduate minor in South Asian Studies and the Study Abroad Program, we are also working on expanding the intellectual opportunities available to Rutgers graduate students who are interested in pursuing research on topics related to South Asia. For instance, we have received a large amount of money from the Rutgers administration and from the Chakra Endowed Fund to fund library acquisitions in the form of books and journals on South Asia. In addition, we are in the process of drawing up a strategic plan for the coming years in the areas of faculty hiring, curriculum development, and speakers' series. We are also considering the possibility of creating a graduate certificate in South Asian Studies if there is sufficient student interest, and if we are able to hire additional faculty members in the future.

Graduate students should also be aware that each spring SASP runs a Research/Travel Awards competition. This is an excellent opportunity to apply for funding for pre-dissertation and dissertation research.

This is your opportunity to get involved from the start of our dynamic new program.
