The First Annual Rutgers Conference on South Asia, the theme of which was "'Home' and the World: South Asia in Transition," took place on Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26, 2005. Professors and graduate students within and outside of Rutgers addressed issues relating to South Asia and its diaspora in a variety of panel discussions and presentations, from Touching Untouchability to Gender and Identity to Global Fundamentalism. We were honored to present Keynote Speakers Shashi Tharoor and Gayatri Spivak, and a reading by author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.

A schedule of events, panel descriptions, speaker biographies, and additional information remain on the conference website.

Videotapes of the conference sessions are also available for borrowing or purchase.
