Key Note Speaker: Professor Anjali Arondekar, University of California, Santa Cruz
Call for Papers: Insurgent South Asia invites conversations on insurgency not merely as historical and political inquiry, but as a way of inhabiting and imagining South Asia. It seeks to activate insurgency as a method that permeates our theoretical frameworks and academic practices, unsettling inherited forms of knowledge and opening new modes of comparison. How might engagement with insurgent archives, histories, pedagogies, and aesthetics animate and reconfigure current approaches to South Asia and South Asian studies? Rather than treating South Asia as a bounded geopolitical “area,” the conference positions it comparatively and deterritorially within interconnected histories of violence and oppression as well as liberation and solidarity.
We invite contributions from diverse disciplinary perspectives engaged with South Asia. Possible avenues of inquiry include, but are not limited to, the following:
Caste, Labor, and Insurgent Politics
Adivasi Futures
Gendering Insurgency
Insurgent Borders
Digital Insurgencies and South Asia
Cinema, Third Cinema, and Insurgent Aesthetics
Theatres of Insurgency
Insurgent Archives or Archiving Insurgency
Palestine and South Asia
Insurgent Literatures of South Asia
Translation as Insurgent Practice
